Providing reference design solution for a DVD+RW: Faster, better and at a lower cost

The customer

European semiconductor giant aiming to enter the NAFTA DVD market.

The challenge

To provide reference design solution for the NAFTA DVD + RW market using chips from the vendor with a competitive product cost while developing the decoder ASIC and reference solution in parallel.

The solution

Wipro took total hardware ownership across design, development and testing of the power supply board, digital & analog board and front panel board meeting component cost requirements of the customer.

Wipro was also responsible for thermal analysis, mechanical cabinet modifications, diagnostics software development, support for system integration and pre-compliance tests (EMI/EMC, ESD, audio/video performance checks etc.).

COGS target was achieved by doing discrete design for power supply circuit, selection of low cost components and reducing the number of layers of PCB.
