The most significant challenges were the need
for a quick ramp up and replacing a bigger team
with a well qualified team. Wipro handled all
the challenges in a phased manner and successfully
took over the engineering ownership of the product:
 |
Wipro engineers
underwent introductory training on the product
for 2 weeks at the customer site. After the
initial training, Wipro engineers underwent
on the job training and started fixing bugs
with guidance from client engineers. This
secondary ownership phase lasted about 2 months.
From the third month, Wipro took complete
engineering ownership and started migrating
work offshore. This was well ahead of the
client’s expectation of migrating engineering
ownership to Wipro offshore. |
 |
A six member
team of Wipro engineers transitioned the engineering
responsibility from an existing team of ten
engineers, with one onsite coordinator and
the rest located at offshore. |
 |
Towards the
end of secondary ownership phase, Wipro set
up an offshore lab with VPN connectivity to
the client site. The offshore lab was fully
functional within a week of equipment arrival.
This helped in a seamless migration of work
offshore. |
 |
Wipro engineers
provided quality fixes in the areas of core
OS running as a layer over VxWorks, HTFS,
snapcopy, NFS, CIFS, FTP, networking, RAID,
SCSI and FC. |
 |
The average outstanding
problem reports used to be 18-20 bugs. After
Wipro taking over the sustenance engineering
responsibility, the average has come down
to 2-4 bugs. This clearly indicates the improvement
in product stability. |
