One of the industry’s
leading wireless semiconductor companies focused
on radio frequency and complete semiconductor system
solutions for mobile communications applications.
The challenge
The client entrusted Wipro with complete responsibility
of developing SoC, reference design, Symbian OS
porting, driver and demo application software.
The solution
The
Wipro team’s contribution was end-to-end design
services covering:
Architecture
using ARM PrimeXsys TM platform revision 4.0
: Developed the architecture using ARM’s
high speed mobile platform.
ARM hard macro creation:
Hard macro was created for ARM9.
USB 1.1 OTG IP from Wipro:
Readily available USB 1.1 OTG core was used.
This reduced the design effort.
IP block design: I2C, I2S
and PCM blocks were developed.
Third party IP evaluation
and integration: Analyzed the third party
IP required in this SoC using Wipro’s
IP evaluation methodology.
System controller for low
power: Clock strategy was defined keeping
low power requirement in mind. Some of the
key features implemented are :are: low power
modes, capability to switch off clock to individual
modules etc.
ARMULATOR and FPGA for
prototyping: ARMULATOR was used to develop
software before the FPGA was available. This
could reduced the design effort. An FPGA based
PCB assembly was developed, signed on which
the design SoC design was implemented for
prototyping purposes.
OS porting, demo: Symbian
OS was ported and application programs were
developed.
Key highlights of the
project
ARM 926EJ-S
running at 180 MHz
AHB frequency at 90 MHz
and APB frequency of 45 MHz
0.13 micron UMC technology
1.3 million gates excluding
memory
Key
highlights of the execution
End to end responsibility for hardware and software.
The benefit
The client could
focus on other mainstream development activities
as this was completely managed and executed by Wipro.
Complete development was done on fixed priced model,
which helped customer to plan budgets well.
