The H.264 standard promises to enable a new wave of multimedia applications from Internet video streaming to mobile video conferencing. This standard is set to outperform the earlier MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.263 standards providing better compression of video images.

H.264 defines a set of three profiles, each supporting a particular set of coding functions and built for a specific application area. The profiles are viz., Baseline profile, Main profile and Extended profile.

Being thought leaders and innovators in the R&D space, Wipro started developing IPs around this and had its first software implementation of the H.264 Baseline profile Decoder. Going ahead, Wipro has increased its portfolio to include the H.264 Main profile Decoder and H.264 Main profile Encoder. Today, these software codecs have been ported, optimized and tested on Intel and TI based platforms. This proven codec is now being integrated into H.264 based multimedia product solutions.
