The client

Our Client provides software and stacks for advanced wireless technology platforms and communication devices. Our Client’s portfolio contains thousands of wireless communication patents worldwide.

 
The business need

The most important part of a protocol stack is not its functioning, but conformance to the relevant standards, which makes it adaptable to all vendor devices. Critical to the launch of such protocol stacks is to tap the small market window of opportunity, where the technology is new, and to minimize the product development cost. Mobile handsets should be error-free right from the product launch, to avoid a costly product recall or dismal sales due to poor quality.

Our client wanted a reliable independent partner who could verifiy 3GPP based selective 3G protocol conformance test cases and validate customer’s UE stack against 3GPP specification.
 
How Wipro helped

Our client’s security procedure did not allow any partner , access to their product source code, UE logs or development team. Wipro had to work with this limitation by doing a detailed analysis of TTCN Test logs and providing pointers to the core and formulating test specification in 3GPP.

To release the stack to OEM vendors, the test team of Wipro and the client had to work simulataneously and also share the same test resource. The “follow the sun” model was used with the client team working during their daytime and India based Wipro team working during day time and extended hours.

Wipro implemented a checklist and shared it with the client , to ensure a seamless handover of the test resources from Wipro team to the client’s team and vice-versa,.

Wipro contributed to the test activity in the following ways:
Verified and validated 40 test cases against 3GPP specification 34123, independently
Verified customer UE Stack w.r t to 3GPP Standards
Verified ANITE U-HT test setup compliance w.r.t 3GPP Specifications.
Validated test logs with reference to 3GPP specifications with the limited information available
Controlled test setup variables remotely – Test resources were shared between Wipro and the client.
Granularity of the test log analysis reports contain reference to following to support designer community for better log analysis of the failed test cases

details from 3GPP Core specification were added to daily reports/TTCN annotation scripts
