| Wipro was completely
responsible for the hardware, the associated firmware
that goes with the board, the management software
support including command line interface and complete
verification of the feature. A right set of people
were identified and assigned to the project and
through extensive discussions with the various groups
involved, the estimation for the feature was done.
There were only a few chip vendors providing
ASICs with these new features and hence a thorough
evaluation of 4 chip vendors was carried out by
Wipro engineers to assess their chips' conformance
to product specifications. The selected ASIC had
numerous issues found during project execution
which were worked around in software. Certain
LCAS functionality was unavailable on the test
equipment used and had to be worked around by
using two line cards to inter-work for testing
the functionality.
Hardware engineers had to handle re-design of
a complex 18 layer board with signal frequencies
as high as 1 GHz. Specification of functional
requirements, detailed design and development
and design of the TL1 and other management interfaces
were done by Wipro at the off-site location. Wipro
was also responsible for system verification,
regression testing, stability testing, performance
testing and large network testing.
