Element management systems are
mostly proprietary and closely coupled to the
NEs of the Equipment Vendor (EV). Their primary
task is to facilitate operation, administration
and maintenance of NE(s).
The network management systems
are more standards based and non-proprietary.
Their primary task is to facilitate operations
at the network level, handling FCAPS functionalities.
Operation support systems and
business support systems help
in automating the operations support and business
support processes. There is a trend to make these
systems open standards based.
Today's networks comprise of multi-vendor, multi-technology
and multi-generation devices and systems. This
raises the issue of inter-operability of many-to-many
devices/systems. EMSs from multiple vendors may
need to work with one NMS. Multiple and different
NMSs may have to work with multiple and different
OSSs and BSSs. Multiple OSSs may have to interop
among themselves. BSS may have to work with multiple
OSSs. In short, it is a complex environment of
many-to-many interoperability.
Open standards based adaptors help in translating
the proprietary protocol interfaces of the NE/EMSs
to a standard north bound interface. These adaptors
facilitate EMS/NE integration with NMS. Similarly,
message adaptors help in NMS/OSS/BSS integration.
Another important aspect is performance optimization
of the overall system.
Wipro is an active member of open standards forums
like TMF, OSS/J, 3GPP to name a few. We have partnerships
with the leading NMS/OSS/BSS providers. Our teams
have rich experience of integrating EMS/NMS/OSS/BSS
and thus improving the efficiency of the network
and bringing down OPEX. Wipro's relationship with
the leading equipment vendors has provided rich
expertise on these management systems. The world
class quality processes followed rigorously at
Wipro ensure an optimum integration.
