Drivers for ATM Adapter cards

The customer

A medium sized US based telecommunications equipment vendor.

The challenge

Studies had indicated that ATM networks had substantial penetration into the enterprise segment. To expand its market reach, the customer wanted to customize the existing IBM AIX based driver and stack for the ATM adapter card to work on Microsoft Windows 9x, Windows NT, Sun Solaris, Linux and a host of other desktop platforms.

The solution

April 1999 was when this customer decided to entrust Wipro with the complete ownership of their ATM stack and driver software. Equipped with a vast amount of prior experience in development of ATM and other related stacks, a team of 35 engineers came together to help this customer evolve a product feature roadmap and assist in porting these drivers and ATM stack to third party platforms. Apart from porting, the team also assisted this customer in providing feature enhancements to the drivers and ATM stack.

Assurance that their product lay in experienced hands and the decreased overhead to develop and maintain their ATM based software products helped the customer focus more resources and energy towards critical parts of their business.
