Wipro’s expertise in multi-service platform helps client focus on new product development

The Client

The client is a European telecom equipment manufacturer and a global leader

The challenge
The client wanted to concentrate on new product development and wanted Wipro to take over ownership of its multi-service platform. R&D budget was to be reduced and product transition was to be accomplished in short and definite time frame without cost or effort over runs. The task on hand was complicated due to
Very complex multi-service switch - L2, L3, Security, OS, Network Management SW
Short TOI time
Large Codebase (Code was over 4 Million lines)
Wipro was required to set up the lab and handle all releases
Transition was to happen with feature releases going on in parallel

Wipro solution
At project startup, domain experts from Wipro analyzed technical, legal and operational problems for ownership (Onsite). This was followed by domain experts from customer coming to Wipro for initial training. As Wipro team got trained onsite, lab setup activity went in parallel. To prevent any spillovers, project progress was tracked every week. The highlights of the project included
Accomplishing successful knowledge transfer
Wipro came out with System Maintenance Technical Document (over 1500 pages)
Domain experts assessed Wipro engineers in all functional areas in the form of questions and bug fixing, small enhancements etc
Lab setup done at Wipro, completed well within stringent timelines and with minimal assistance from customer

Best Practices Lab Set up
Detailed Planning and sharing with all engineers
Effective usage of communication (Telecon, Videocon)
Periodic review of upcoming maintenance document
Exhaustive Lab design and sharing with customer
Presence of onsite coordinator helped the communication process
Communication Infrastructure setup and trial runs done
Detailed Lab costing in the beginning itself
