An automation test suite is developed and tested for ATM switch signaling protocols

The customer

Our customer is a global telecommunications major.

The challenge

The project required the development and testing of an automation test suit e for the customer's ATM switch signaling protocols (UNI, PNNI, AINI, SAAL)

The solution

Fourteen Wipro engineers worked on this next generation ATM switch and converted test specifications into test scripts using SNMP scripting language.

The Open Systems and platforms used in this project make skills developed easily reusable. The test development environment included Erlang, Tcl/Tk, traffic generators like HP75000 and use of cell generation and ATM protocol simulators. Scripts were written to test the core functionality of the switch including ATM signaling protocols, virtual circuits, circuit emulation, call control and connection control.

Element and network management functionalities were tested, particularly in areas of fault management, network synchronization, SDH/SONET, protection switching and redundancy.

This project has helped the customer to test the product faster, thus reducing time-to-market.
