| Telecom, datacom
and storage networks are evolving into a single
high performance multi-service optical network.
Incumbent providers who earlier offered voice
and data services, are planning to move towards
triple play and in a few cases quadruple play
(including mobile services). These new services
place a high demand on the resources in the network
span between the central office and the end user.
The existing cable networks are being pushed to
the limits to harness such requirements. High
speed DSL is limited by certain speeds and distances.
In such a scenario, the carriers are looking at
’Fiber to the Home' architecture as a future
proof investment, with the aim of deploying triple
play services over them.
Passive Optical Networks or PONs as they are
commonly known is one of the current choices for
providers to embrace as their next generation
access architecture. Point to point Ethernet over
fiber is another option.
Wipro has extensive experience in the areas of
FPGA/ASIC/Board hardware and integrated software
development. Wipro has been working with equipment
vendors in this space in both hardware and software
areas.
